The Battlefield of the Mind: A Life lesson from Mohammed Ali

‘’If you even dream of beating me, you’d better wake up and apologize’’ – Mohammad Ali

Ali Muhammed is one of the greatest trash-talkers in history. His constant taunting of opponents reached maddening levels in his boxing days. He made his opponents become his victims in the mental battle and this made them more vulnerable in the ring.

Against heavyweight champion Sonny Liston in 1964, he was brash to no end. He was quoted as saying, ‘’ I’m gonna whoop him like I’m his daddy’’. On many occasions, he said, ‘’I’ll float like a butterfly and sting like a bee’’. Despite being a 7-1 underdog, Ali won the fight via a technical knock-out.

It is often said that an army of sheep led by a lion will put to flight an army of lions led by a sheep. That ‘s the power of the mind. Battles are first won in the mind before they happen in real life.

One instrument that Ali wielded was his tongue. Your words can inspire and they can destroy. Words are more powerful than atomic bombs. Through words, you can transform people’s emotions, you can enlist people on your cause and you can shape the course of destiny.

When you sow a word, you reap a thought. When you sow a thought, you reap an act. When you sow an act, you reap a habit. When you sow habit, you reap destiny. Words create emotions and actions; and from actions flow the results of our lives. Don’t mix your words with your mood; rather change your mod with your words.
